The Economic and Statistical Observatory for Sub-Saharan Africa (AFRISTAT), with its 22 member states, is an intergovernmental organisation created on 21 September 1993 by the then 14 member states of the Franc Zone (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Mali, Niger, Senegal, and Togo). Over time, the following states have joined the network: Burundi, Cabo Verde, Djibouti, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar, Mauritania, Sao Tome and Principe.
